Post The Fated Circle OOC
So yeah, this place is pretty quiet, I think I'll start up an RP and see if it gets people posting more.

That and I need something to occupy my brain or I'm going to explode.

THE LAND OF MALVEDAR
Malvedar is one continent on the world of Atlas. A grandiose land, it is of great expanse, and inhabited by several different races and cultures. There are many secrets in this land, many stories to be told and many heroes and villains to be remembered. This particular tale, however, is about you and your friends. Or at least, that's how it begins.

COUNTRIES OF MALVEDAR
  • Gaundar: Here our story begins. Gaundar is famed as the Fierce Frontier, an untamed plains, forest, and hills territory where anyone with the daring and capability can forge his or her own way. There is no central ruling body in Gaundar, no king or regent or elected official; in Gaundar, only one's conscience and one's sword is the law. Gaundans know this, and prepare accordingly, and for the most part respect each other's claims; that said, it is not uncommon to hear of minor territory conflicts.
  • Tios: The Magocracy of Tios is east of Gaundar's wilderness. Famed for its spire-strewn capital, Tios is a land of enchantment, a community of wizards ruled by wizards where knowledge is the greatest wealth and magic flows as freely as water. Every major city in Tios has a magical academy where prospective mages from the world over travel to study for the chance to earn the right to be called Wizards.
  • Mattarch: East of Tios lies its rival, Mattarch - a mercenary oligarchy ruled by a High General, with heavy focus on advanced technology. Where Tios specializes in magic, Mattarch turns their gazes on the mundane: how mortal men and women can use the laws of physics and reality to their benefit rather than bending and breaking them. The two countries have been at odds for years, each constantly attempting to outdo the other with their skill of choice. For the would-be inventor, Mattarch's colleges are second to none.
  • Juliana: Northwest of Mattarch and north of Gaundar and Tios, the monarchy of Juliana rests in the rolling plains and gentle hills of Malvedar's heart. A decidedly neutral nation, Juliana trades crops and livestock raised on its plentiful lands but tries to remain uninvolved in political disputes and only has a royal army for the purposes of its own defense and dealing with the occasional large local monster.
  • Thiatara: South of Tios and Gaundar is the coastal land of Thiatara, a small strip of sea-bordering territory and a small archipelago of islands clustered a few miles from the shore. A feudal land ruled by bickering lords, the land holds a simple alliance with Mattarch due to the advances technology has provided to the shipping, sailing, and fishing that is the country's livelihood. Despite the constant strife of its rulership, their navy is one of the most exceptional military forces in all Malvedar.
  • Tursus: If Gaundar can be said to be untamed, the frigid northlands of Tursus - beginning at the Blackhill Mountains along Juliana's north border - are downright feral. Here the ancient barbarian tribes still roam, living by the Old Paths and led by their shamans and seers; though constantly feuding with one another, the tribes have been known to unite to fend off foreign invaders, and after one failed excursion from Juliana and two foiled attacks by Tios the southern lands have learned to simply leave the barbarians alone or trade with them, and prepare defenses against the occasional raid.
  • Yashkal: North of Mattarch and east of Tursus, separated only by the northern sweep of the Blackhill Mountains, are the rocky mountain lands of Yashkal. Originally populated by travelers seeking riches buried deep in the stones, mining has since become the territory's primary source of wealth; those who aren't miners are likely craftsmen who make use of the ores, precious metals, and gems unearthed there. They trade with the Tursans, Juliana, and Tios primarily: supplying the barbarians with weapons, the Julians with building supplies, and the mages with raw resources in exchange for gold, favors, or magical aid.

RACES OF MALVEDAR
The species diversity in Malvedar is grand beyond belief. In short, nearly anything goes.

Post Re: The Fated Circle OOC
Name: Kikker van der Meer
Age: 57
Gender: NA (For the sake of convenience, if this question ever arises 'he' goes with male)
Race: A member of the Thiatara Vis (The people of the sea do not bother to define race as such and since there are so many different types of 'people' they are all referred to as Vis)

Appearance:
Spoiler: show
Image
Yeah, he's a frog person.

Equipment: Clad in magic armour that is well, mostly decorative (the magic regulates the armour adapting to the environment. Keeps him warm in cold places and cool in hot places ect.) Kikker is rarely seen without it and his trusty sword. He also carries some rope, a whetstone, iron spikes, a waterskin and some emergency rations in a pouch that he around his waist.

Personality: Kikken is a nice guy. He's calm, usually quite collected and doesn't stress or freak out easily. He goes out of his way to help others and seeks nothing in return. He's also completely insane but this rarely shows.

Backstory: Kikken always wanted to be part of the military and it soon became apparent that not only was he driven, he was very talented. Unfortunately due to his natural ability he rose quickly in the ranks and became a little -too- popular and powerful for some of the higher ups. Once a proud navy captain, the youngest ever to be appointed, Kikken was someone to fear but even someone as collected as him can let things get to their head. He was sent on a suicide mission, him and his closest men to a battle where they were outnumbered 20 to 1. He reappeared years later and it was clear -something- had happened to him. While he bore no scars or obvious injuries despite supposedly being killed in combat he well, was not himself. He was convinced that in order to win 'the war' (something he does not elaborate on) that he would have to find 'the ultimate codex of magic' and eat it. So he set off, wandering the lands, helping those in need all the time secretly searching for the codex, something he only lets his closest friends know of now (he leaves out the eating part) since he received some severe backlash and ostracism back home despite his pleas that it was the only way to save them all.

Capabilities: Basically, he's an enchanter. His main method of attack is to magically infuse his weapon (cause to become flaming, divine, necrotic ect) and well, hack at things with it. He can also do the same with his armour to help protect himself from magic attacks. He fights wielding his sword in one hand and uses the other for magic. He's an exceptional swordsman and a competent magician (mostly proficient in enchantments and has limited skill in other areas) but he rarely uses magic outside of when he deems it necessary in combat.

Other Notes: His name means 'frog from the lake' in Dutch.

Yup, fine... like I said, just trying to kick up some activity, not going to start until I've got at least two or three people anyway.

(EDIT: *Snerk* Post 333. Does that make me a half-fiend? :P )

Post Now with more Jib!
Name: Abigail (Abby) Teslon
Age: 14
Gender: Female
Race: Human

Appearance: A little on the short side. She wears her short brown hair in pigtails on top. She has a large green cargo vest over a light blue t-shirt, baggy green shorts held up by a tool belt, and a pair of pink gloves her mother gave her. She wears plain old brown shoes with one plain white sock and a blue striped one. One day she'll invent that sock sorter machine to remedy the problem.

Equipment: A bulky pair of goggles that sit on her head that possess zooming lenses. A specially designed slingshot/crossbow on her left wrist that can fire whatever form of ammunition she desires. It also has a grappling hook attachment. Her tool belt and cargo vest consist of various items. Wrenches, screwdrivers, a flashlight, and a small hammer. Her ammunition consists of specially designed cherry bombs, smoke bombs, itchy bombs, and miniature crossbow bolts. She also uses rocks on occasion.

Personality: A genius ditz, as many call her. She's often arrogant, selfish, and easily distracted. Despite these flaws, she's the smartest girl she knows. It's true, she checked. Because of her ego, she despises being talked down to or insulted and is quick to anger, though she'll laugh it off later. She is disgusted with people who don't know how to work machines or treat them wrong. She doesn't seem to grasp the concept of activities other than mechanics. Why waste time with something like sports when she can build a robot to play for her? She also seems smitten with the idea of "fixing" people's problems. Broken leg? Why not try a pair of Turbo Legs(tm)? A broken heart? Well no wonder, it's all squishy and weak. A mechanical one would last longer and pump blood a lot faster. Insomnia? Nothing a good whack from her wrench can't fix!

Backstory: Her father, Albertstein Teslon, was one of the most well-known and respected inventors in Mattarch. He built and crafted many useful devices for the country and its people, though he was overshadowed by his more successful brother, Atherton, who designs tools of war for the kingdom. Ablertstein later married and settled down with a wandering scholar and sorceress named Angela from Tios, which earned him the ire of many of his colleagues and discredited much of his work. He cared little for the accusations and decided to retire when his daughter was born. However, he soon discovered that Atherton had stolen one of his older designs and converted it into a powerful war machine. He was furious and returned to inventing to build the original device as intended. Unfortunately, an accident occurred that took his right leg and nearly killed him. After that, he resigned himself to being an old has-been who could never step out of his brother's shadow. As Abigail grew older, she became determined to carry on her father's legacy and prove that he was one of the most magnificent inventors of all time. This puts her at odds with her cousin, Arthur, who is following in his father's footsteps. Her father has tried to discourage her from building weapons, but she doesn't seem to understand his ideas of peaceful machines and believes the only way to beat her cousin and uncle is at their own game. Currently, she's built a robot that she claims to be "The Most Ultimate Super Robot That Ever Existed!" His name is Jib.

Capabilities: She can construct and repair machines with great ease, sometimes from complete junk. It usually takes her a few minutes to do so. She seems to instinctively know what's wrong with something and how to fix it. She believes that she can also improve things as well, which can lead to it becoming totally useless to the owner since it either no longer serves its original purpose or because she's the only one who knows how to work it. She's also a great shot with her Slingbow Shooter(tm).

Other Notes: -The first invention she ever made was her Slingbow Shooter.

-She won't let anyone make fun of Jib, despite the fact that she does it all the time.

-She and her parents don't get along too well. Her mother believes Abby should find a less dangerous hobby while her father would rather Abby use her machines to help people.

-Her main reason for wanting to continue her father's legacy is because she was always bullied for being the daughter of a washed up inventor and a witch.

-She used to participate in robot battling after building Jib, but always lost because of Jib's reluctance to fight. She stopped fighting because too many people would laugh at her and her wimpy robot.

-When she learned about the untamed wilds of Gaundar, she figured it would be the perfect place to toughen up Jib and make him into a real war machine. Her parents of course refused to let her go, so she and Jib ran away. She's determined to prove herself as a great inventor, though she may be starting to regret it now.

Name: J18 (aka Jib)
Age: 7 months
Gender: None (though he was designed to be male)
Race: Robot

Appearance: He's 8 feet tall and his armor is dark blue and silver. His body basic body structure is this:
Spoiler: show
Image

Except with a larger and rounder chassis (or torso) I'll probably draw him later.

Equipment/Capabilities:: Several weapons and gadgets have been attached to his body. A more heavy-duty version of Abby's own Slingbow Shooter and a flamethrower and a shield on his left. His left hand can also turn into a drill and his right can be launched at enemies on a chain which acts kind of like a wrecking ball. Each shoulder also houses a different weapon, the right fires bottle rockets and the left launches Abby's specially designed cherry bombs. He has a special cannon in his mid-section that can fire a powerful laser beam! Or at least, it will one day when Abby can figure out how to do that. He has a pair of rocket thrusters on his back to make him fly, but they don't seem to be capable of keeping him in the air, so Abby adjusted them to act as boosters to give him a charging attack.
He mainly relies on his brute strength. He usually carries around an enormous green backpack that's filled with supplies and a few replacement parts as well as a tent.

Personality: Jib is a pacifist. Or at least tries to be. His peaceful nature puts him at odds with his creator wanting him to be a warbot. He's very polite, cares deeply for nature, and loves to make new friends. He abhors violence but will resort to it if his master is in danger or if she threatens him enough. His hobbies include cooking, gardening, karaoke, sewing, and reading. He only desires to please his creator, he just wish it didn't involve becoming a killing machine.

Backstory: Abby built Jib to be the ultimate robot from random parts she had been collecting from the local junkyard for two years. After becoming fully operational, he decided to perform household chores and help out the townspeople. He quickly made friends with a lot of people. Later, when he found out about Abby's plans to turn him into a warbot, he became frightened. He tried to convince her not to do something so horrible, but she was determined. Fortunately, her father forbid her from arming him with real weapons so she stuck to using fireworks and bb pellets that she made herself. The flamethrower and drill attachment however is something she didn't tell her father about.

Other Notes: -Jib's name comes from the symbols J18 on his chest piece, which was probably from another robot. Originally, Abby called him Kill Machine, but her parents and the townspeople called him Jib. Abby eventually started calling him that too after Jib asked her to.

-Jib likes making pretty dresses for Abby, though she refuses to wear them.

-Jib isn't aware of just how strong he is. Because of this, he's no longer allowed to handle small animals.

-Despite their differences, Jib and Abby do get along quite well. When she's not berating him for being a sissy robot.

-Jib once did have lasers. Though they were actually colored lights that came from a mirrored ball inside his chassis whenever he spun around. Abby later removed it because she thought it was stupid.

Post Re: The Fated Circle OOC
Name: Cestal Morwind (Sess-tall More-wind)
Age: 34
Gender: Male
Race: Shadarkai: Often mistaken for Elves or Humans at first glance, Shadarkai are actually Fey, native to the shadowy places of the world. They tend to have pale complexions, dark or stark white hair, and somber dispositions. They are one of the few Fey races who can tolerate civilization, though they have a certain wariness about techonology due to its heavy reliance on iron, which they remain weak to the effects of.

Appearance:
Spoiler: show
Image

As above, except with darker hair and slightly pointed ears. His eyes are a pale blue-grey, and appear to have no pupils - a sure sign of his fey nature. He stands at 6'1", and weighs around 195 lbs.

Equipment: Cestal dresses lightly, wearing only leather armor overlaid with light chainmail - anything heavier both slows his movement and reflexes, and interferes with his spellcasting ability. While his chain and his sword at first glance appear normal, a second look reveals them to be faceted and semitransparent, as if they were crafted not of metal but of some sort of crystal. Despite this, they seem as resilient and effective as their normal counterparts.

Otherwise, he carries traditional adventuring equipment - trail rations, waterskin, compass, cloak, pack with bedroll, etc. The one major item he doesn't usually carry is a torch or lantern, which he generally considers unnecessary as Shadarkai can see in the dark and the times he does need light he can conjure it magically. Almost nothing he carries is made of metal, and the few things that are use copper rather than the more common iron or steel.

Personality: Cestal comes off as quiet, reclusive, and antisocial at first glance, which is fairly typical of Shadarkai, who tend to be loners even among their own dwindling kind. That said, this is mostly a defensive mechanism, and anyone who he judges as trustworthy enough may find him much more open and talkative, if a bit blunt and lacking in tact. He has a strong sense of personal honor, based on an unwritten code of morality that despite having no organization or force behind it Cestal keeps to the letter. He has a special fondness for young children and will go out of his way to act in their favor.

Backstory: The Shadarkai are a dying race: while the dark Fey themselves may be comfortable in the cities of steel and stone that the other races have created unlike their wilderness cousins, the constant spread of civilization is slowly but surely obliterating the shadowy corners of the world with the light of knowledge and experience, and thereby eroding the metaphysical force that this particular variety of Fey depends on for their existence. As a result, more and more Shadarkai are finding themselves "born" without others of their kind to raise them, and either succumbing to the elements and returning to the shadows from whence they came, or being found and raised by other races. In Cestal's case it was Ricard and Erilin Morwind, a pair of elves from Juliana, who discovered him and decided to raise him as their own.

Given the physical similarities, the Morwinds at first thought Cestal was an abandoned elf or half-elf child; his Fey nature wasn't discovered until he was four, when he was badly burned by touching an iron cauldron that wasn't anywhere near hot. He also matured much more quickly than an elven child, reaching physical maturity only a few years after a human would, around age 25 - a little less than half the expected age of an equivalently-mature elven child.

Shortly after this he and his adoptive mother traveled into the mountains of Tursus and Yashkal to gather the crystals and worked with the Yaskal smiths and dwarves to create the chain armor and his sword so that Cestal could have equipment equivalent to steel without risking harm to himself in wielding it. The creation took great time and expense and significant risk of local monster and barbarian attacks, but after six months of work were complete. Upon proving himself capable, Cestal was allowed to apply for membership in the Juliana Guard.

It was during his time with the guard that Cestal discovered his magical talent. His squadron was struck by an errant blast of lightning during a training drill, and though no one was badly wounded Cestal reflexively counterattacked and, despite lacking any formal training or knowledge of magic whatosever, sent a similar bolt hurtling back at the caster who had mis-aimed; thankfully the young deva woman was well-warded against magical attacks and the reflexive counter bounced aside and fizzled harmlessly. Amazed by his newly-discovered talent, Cestal began attempting to train as a battlemage, but despite several years spent studying magic he could never manage to cast any spells until seeing them in action. It was eventually determined that, by some means unknown to prior magical study except perhaps in Tios, Cestal's magic was interactive rather than intuitive, requiring him to experience the magic before he could perform it. This made his repertoire a little too unpredictable for the battlemage captains and his requests to join their numbers were repeatedly denied.

Cestal remained with the guard for his full tour of duty - seven years - though in that time he never left the country's borders on any official mission; as it had been for most of its existence Juliana remained for the most part peaceful and the soldiers rarely mobilized against anything but the occasional barbarian raid from the north or monster attack from the south or west. Once discharged, he declined the opportunity to reenlist and instead turned his sights south to Gaundar.

Capabilities: Cestal is a skilled swordsman, but his main strength lies in his unusual power of "mirroring" magic. No amount of study can add or improve his capabilities (and believe me, he spent years trying) but merely by seeing and experiencing the effects of a spell firsthand - being in the presence of a caster, or being struck by a spell benevolently or offensively - seems to trigger a response of some sort in his mind and body, and with only a little practice afterward he can almost perfectly replicate the magic. (TL;DR version: Blue Mage.)

Other Notes: As Fey, Cestal is deathly vulnerable to certain metals. Cold-forged iron is the most deadly, but standard iron is far more common and most Fey make little distinction between the two, Cestal being no exception. Either metal causes vicious burns on contact and wounds caused by bladed iron weapons take exceptionally long to heal. Steel has a diluted effect, dulling his senses and weakening his constitution, only causing physical harm after extended physical contact. Silver causes painful hives, and wounds cut by silver weapons risk inflicting a form of blood poisoning on Cestal; as a result he will meticulously divide silver coins out of his wealth and exchange them for gold or copper at the quickest convenience.

As his weapons and armor are made of crystal, they are unaffected by things that would target metal - such as certain spells or the hunger of a Rust Monster - but vulnerable to other attacks, such as a high-powered sonic pulse or vicious vibrations that could theoretically shatter them if powerful enough.

Cestal's magical repertoire at the moment is fairly limited. His spells will be listed here as he learns them:
Defense:
  • Body Shield - A common defensive spell, surrounds the target(s) in an invisible shield that wards off some physical attacks. Will shatter after a few strikes.
  • Longstrider - Grants the target(s) a short burst of speed.
Offense:
  • Black Briar - A spell used by druids and plant mages, which causes a plant (held, or a nearby targeted one) to grow long, thorned black tendrils and attack as commanded.
  • Lightning Bolt - Exactly what it says. Throws a lightning bolt.
  • Small Sun - Creates a ball of light. Can be used as a torch, or thrown at an enemy's face to blind them.

Finished mine.
Faceless pointed out that we've more or less got Lucca, Robbo, Frog and Magus now.

Any chance we could get a map?

So um, I guess I might just arrive at the Tavern then?

I could probably draw a map... how extensive of one are you wanting? All of Ehrem, or just "established" geography of Gaundar, or the whole continent?

And either you're just arriving, or you're currently staying at the inn, or something along those lines, yeah. Or you could be someone who's been here a while and is planning to move on soon.

Just a general map of the nations was what I was after but if you can give a little more detail than that, especially in Gaundar that'd be sweet.
